Community engagement approach

We are committed to providing clear and objective information and opportunities for people to participate in decision making that affects them and our region.

Our approach to community engagement comprises a continuum of methods, ranging from informing to consulting to more active participation with our communities.

Community engagement happens prior to elected member debate and decision-making in the Council chamber. Community feedback helps to inform our decision-making process.

Our engagement framework provides further information about our approach, including influences on decision making and our decision making process.

The Local Government Act 1999 specifies the minimum that councils must undertake when engaging with their communities. Further information about our legislative requirements is outlined in the act and in our Public Consultation Procedure.
