The Goggles - Port Noarlunga

The Goggles - Port NoarlungaIn 2013 a group of passionate Port Noarlunga residents and traders came together with the intention to increase Port Noarlunga’s visibility to the world.

Simultaneously, sightings of the Western Blue Groper, a rare species believed almost lost from the Spencer Gulf, were being reported at Port Noarlunga reef.

The group consulted with the community and decided a major public art as one outcome of their vision, with financial support provided by local business and not-for-profit organisations.

A Small Art Factory was awarded the commission with their design, The Goggles. .

The concept proposed various shapes and elements layered within a goggle frame to capture attention and increase awareness of the unique underwater aquatic life found at the Port Noarlunga reef and surrounds.

The project was supported with a City of Onkaparinga Community Streetscape grant and managed through the Public Art Framework.
