Applications for Australian citizenship are processed and approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).

Public Citizenship Ceremonies

The City of Onkaparinga holds citizenship ceremonies at regular intervals throughout each year, with a ceremony also held annually on Australia Day.

Invitations to ceremonies are sent out by DIBP, inviting approved applicants to attend an upcoming ceremony.

You will need to provide photographic identification when registering at one of our ceremonies eg a current driver’s licence or passport of your country of origin.

A photographer may be present at our ceremonies.  If you do not wish to have your photograph taken, please inform council officers at the registration desk.

Officers from the Australian Electoral Commission will also be present and you will need to complete an enrolment registration form, prior to or after the ceremony.
