Friendship and Kookaburra Day Clubs

Blending respite, friendship and fun, our Friendship Club is for frail older people, people with dementia or people with a disability who live in the City of Onkaparinga and have a carer. Qualified staff and trained volunteers provide a professional support program in a safe and welcoming environment.

Activities include:

  • guest speakers
  • board and table games
  • regular outings
  • hot lunches
  • gentle exercise
  • entertainment.

The clubs are based at the Council’s Positive Ageing Centres.

Friendship Club

Wakefield House Positive Ageing Centre, Morphett Vale
Monday and Thursday, 9.30am - 2.30pm

The Friendship Club is a centre based low level respite program that provides an out of home option for carers living within the City of Onkaparinga.

Friendship Club provides participants over the age of 65 with meaningful activities working on wellbeing whilst supporting and facilitating independence and choice in a safe and stimulating environment.

Kookaburra Club

Transport can be arranged. We request a contribution towards the cost of meals, transport and special events.

Funded by the City of Onkaparinga, Department of Human Services and Commonwealth Home Support Programme.



Volunteers are a large part of both programs and make a real difference to our participants’ day by helping with variety of activities including outings, board games, bingo, reading a book or newspaper, supporting the coordinator with paper work or simply offering an arm for a stroll around the garden.

Volunteer requirements:

  • a satisfactory criminal history record check (we can arrange this for you)
  • empathy with the elderly and/or people with a disability
  • skill and physical ability to provide assistance to people with physical/mental/ageing disabilities.
