Public transport

Public transport is one of the most cost effective modes of transport available. Concessions are available when travelling with an approved concession or student card. Senior Card holders can travel free at certain times on weekdays, all weekend and public holidays. Companions/carers accompanying a person with a disability may also travel for free. Regular buses can provide access to a number of different destinations including Noarlunga Centre, Flinders Medical Centre and the City.

Trains, trams and buses are now more accessible for people with disabilities. Call the Adelaide Metro Info Line on 1300 311 108 to confirm that an accessible bus is available on the day of your journey. Priority seating is also available for people who are elderly, pregnant, injured, have a disability or are travelling with an infant.

Public transport - train

Assistance with transport can build confidence and offer a more independent life. This program offers the opportunity to build confidence, learn travel skills and gain more knowledge on how to safely use our public transport. A trained travel companion can help you with:

  • planning a journey
  • reading timetables
  • buying a ticket or Metrocard
  • boarding and disembarking safely
  • recognising landmarks en route to identify where to get on and off

Access taxis cater for passengers with mobility difficulties, particularly for passengers who use wheelchairs or scooters. The vehicles are purpose built and fitted with hydraulic lifts that enable passengers in wheelchairs and scooters to be positioned safely and securely in the taxi.

Mobility Scooters

Community Bus

The Community Bus provides transport to residents, who are frail, aged, isolated and young people with disabilities, who are transport disadvantaged with limited access to private or public transport.

We provide transport to attend your nearest shopping centre, community centre, library or social club.

The service operates in most areas on weekdays. Passengers are collected between 8.30 -11am and return times vary for each area. A gold coin donation per journey is encouraged

Bookings are taken between the hours of 9am – 3pm Monday to Friday.

Noarlunga Volunteer Transport Service

The Noarlunga Volunteer Transport Service is a volunteer organisation that provides transport assistance to the frail or at risk aged residents within the City of Onkaparinga and is available Monday to Friday.

Transport assistance is provided for essential appointments:

  • hospital
  • health professionals
  • hydrotherapy
  • physiotherapy
  • podiatry
  • dental
  • mental health services
  • visiting nursing homes
  • social support
  • lifestyle
  • community activities
  • age care support groups
  • hairdressing appointments

A shopping companion service is also available subject to availability.

All bookings require a minimum of 48 hours notice.

Options Transport – Red Cross

Red Cross Options Transport Service assists Onkaparinga Council residents who have no access to other means of transport to attend medical appointments at facilities such as Flinders Medical Centre, the Repatriation General Hospital and metropolitan specialists. Options Transport can also assist with transport for social activities, visiting family members and community engagement opportunities. The service operates five days a week and requires notice of two working days for bookings. There is no registration cost and the service is available for a capped fee ($6 each way within the Onkaparinga area and $12 each way if traveling outside the boundary).

Willunga District Community Bus

The Willunga District Community Bus is a volunteer service available for the frail, aged and transport disadvantaged residing in the Willunga, Aldinga, Sellicks Beach, Maslin Beach, McLaren Vale and McLaren Flat areas.

The Willunga District Community Bus travels between Willunga, McLaren Vale, Aldinga and Sellicks Beach seniors clubs, community centres, library and shopping centres.

On Tuesdays the bus provides a medical service in Sellicks, Aldinga, Willunga and McLaren Vale.

Charters for not for profit clubs may also be provided.

Bookings are essential 24 hours prior to travel.

Social Connections

The Social Connections program provides opportunities for older people to source information on the social activities they are passionate about, to develop their skills, follow their interests and to meet others in their community. Social connections organises social trips and works closely with community centres and other organisations that offer local social activities that are sustainable and promote healthy, active lifestyles. We work together on barriers that may prevent people from being more socially active including medical reasons, transport and caring for a loved one.
