Keeping dog registration details up to date

  • Ensure your dog’s address and other details are up to date in the council register.

  • Council must also be notified if your dog dies, is missing for more than 72 hours, is given to a new owner or is surrendered to the RSPCA or Animal Welfare League

Dog ownership laws are changing

All dogs must be microchipped by 1 July 2018.

Mandatory desexing applies to all dogs born after 1 July 2018.

Registration categories have been changed to:

  • Standard dog – a dog that is both desexed and microchipped
  • Non-standard dog – all other dogs, even if they are exempt from rules around desexing or microchipping (i.e. dogs belonging to registered breeders, working livestock dogs etc).

Working or SABRCB greyhound dogs – $18.00

Assistance dogs – guide, disability and hearing dogs – $0.00

Trained dogs – will receive a further $15 discount

Concessions – concession card holders will receive a further rebate of 50% off their dog registration fee.

New dog registration

All dogs must be registered once they reach three months of age or if acquired as an adult dog, once the dog has been in the owner’s possession for 14 days. 

Dog registration discs are sent with your annual renewal notice, payment is due before 31 August. Your dog must be wearing its registration disc whenever off your property. 

New dog registration can be completed by attending any of the council offices

FREE first year registration for dogs adopted from animal shelters

  • We offer residents free first year registration of dogs adopted through the Animal Welfare League, RSPCA or other recognised responsible dog shelter.
  • Free registration can be completed at the shelter at the time of adoption or within 14 days of new dog ownership. Dogs can be less than 3 months for this process to occur.
