Green Buildings Initiative

The Green Buildings Initiative is an ongoing program to ‘green’ Council buildings. The program will reduce energy and water use, waste and greenhouse gas emissions from all 360 council owned buildings over time and we have set a series of targets to help us monitor our progress.  The initiative is a strategic overlay to our buildings asset management processes and an integral part of our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint.

The 2015 program of works covered upgrades to 24 council owned buildings and included solar pv systems, improvements to lighting and air conditioning and a range of internal water saving measures.

We expect to exceed the corporate electricity target for community buildings (10% reduction) as a result of these works and all savings achieved in community sites will benefit the building occupants directly.  In addition to the building upgrades, we are assisting our leaseholders to actively minimise energy and water consumption through their day to day activities as well

Green Hubs

We have created Green Hubs in the north and south of the City to demonstrate ways to reduce energy and water consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Why not take the opportunity to see the changes we’ve made, you never know, it might spark an idea for some easy changes that can be made at home to save you money and reduce your impact on the environment.
