Missed bin collection

Please let us know if your bins have not been emptied. You  can report a missed bin collection online or contact our Customer Relations team on (08) 8384 0666 or

We will need the following information:

  • your name
  • your contact details
  • the address where the bin was missed
  • what type of bin (recycling, green organics, waste)
  • the date the collection was missed
  • where your bin is placed for collection now
  • any further comments

Please allow two working days for the bin to be emptied. Please leave the bin at the kerb.

Bin repairs & maintenance

If your bin has been damaged (eg wheels have fallen off, broken lid, bin has split etc), you can request a bin repair online or contact our Customer Relations team on (08) 8384 0666 or

They'll need to know which bin has is damaged and details of the damage.

You'll need to leave the damaged bin just inside your property near the letterbox and provide the following information:

  • your name
  • your contact details
  • your property address
  • what time of bin needs repairs?
    • recycling (yellow lid)
    • recycling (round)
    • green organics
    • waste (red lid)
    • waste (older style, more round in shape)
  • which part of the bin is damaged? (ie. body, lid, lid pins, lid & wheels, wheels)
  • where your bin is located now (eg. next to letterbox, around the corner etc). 
    Please leave the bin where it is visible from the road and allows easy access
  • any further comments

Your bin will be either repaired or replaced within 5 working days. Please leave it out until then.

There is no charge for either repairing or replacing your recycling, green organics or waste bin.

Lost or stolen bins

If your bin disappears, please let us know so that we can replace it for you.

Your replacement bins will be delivered within five working days. 

Found bins

We will pick up unwanted or abandoned kerbside bins.  We collect abandoned bins so that they can be reused as part of the kerbside collection service.

Should you find a bin that is not yours, please contact us so that we may collect it and return it to the correct address. Unwanted or abandoned bins will be collected within five days of notification. Bins should be left at the front of the property for collection.

Bin ownership

The City of Onkaparinga retains ownership of all bins, and all bins must remain at the property for the next occupant if you leave or sell your property.

If you have recently moved into a house and no kerbside bins are at your property please contact our Customer Relations Team and we will deliver your bins. Conditions apply.

Non-compliant bins

Bins that are not City of Onkaparinga branded bins will not be emptied. It will be the responsibility of the resident to get any non-compliant bins emptied.

Changes to bins supplied

Some of our bins have been in service for more than twenty years. As they get older and start to fall apart, or if parts are no longer available, we will replace them.

Stickered bins

When we came to collect your bin we noticed there was a problem, which meant we could not empty your bin today. These issues must be corrected before your next scheduled collection for the bin to be emptied.

Your bin has been stickered because:

Reason What you need to do
No clear access to the bin Clear any obstacles to allow the truck clear access to the bin
Bin is overfull Remove some material from the bin
Bin is too heavy Remove some material from the bin
Bin is not a City of Onkaparinga bin Use City of Onkaparinga bins only - contact council to remove the bin
Bin contains inappropriate materials (contamination) Remove contaminating materials from the bin
Bin is in the wrong position Place your bin at the kerb with the handles facing the house
Bins have not been returned from the kerb Take your bin in as soon as possible after emptying (within 24 hours of collection)
