The suburbs and townships from the war-time era which make up the present day City of Onkaparinga included the following: • Aldinga • Kangarilla • Baker’s Gully (Kangarilla) • McLaren Flat • Cherry Gardens • McLaren Vale • Clarendon • Morphett Vale • Coromandel Valley (part) • Noarlunga • Darlington (part) • O’Halloran Hill (part) • Dashwood Gully (Kangarilla) • Port Noarlunga • Glengrove (Kangarilla) • Sellick’s Hill • Happy Valley • Willunga • Hurtle Vale (Reynella) Those who were born in or resided in areas along the boundary of our City may or may not be included due to the likelihood of geographic overlap. For towns such as Coromandel Valley and O’Halloran Hill, the decision has been to include anyone with clear links to the towns regardless of the council boundary. The biographical and service details of 668 men and women are recorded in this book. There are more recorded on rolls of honour and memorials which could not be confirmed at the time of publication as having local connections. Details of the memorials located within the City of Onkaparinga follow the alphabetical listing of names. Of the 668 individuals researched, 477 were born within the City of Onkaparinga. There were nine nurses from our City who served overseas. One hundred and thirty eight men lost their lives in service. Many more died from disease and war wounds on their return home.
