Sauerbier House Culture Exchange is a

site responsive contemporary arts space

that offers a rolling program of artist and

writers residencies and exhibitions. The

building is a state heritage community asset that has been transformed from a

residence (originally George Sauerbier c.1897) into a centre dedicated to the creation

and ongoing support of cultural and artistic exchange, strengthening the creative

expression of the region.

Set by the banks of the beautiful Ngangkiparingga, Kaurna for Womens River, the

Sauerbier House Culture Exchange program allows visitors the opportunity to

engage with artists and writers at work, giving access to the often unseen processes

artist utilise in the creation and unfolding of an artwork or piece of writing.

AWEEPING SONG (THEWIND, THEWATER)

ARTISTS: LISA HARMS

WITH GEORGINA WILLIAMS NGANKIBURKA-MEKAUWE

This photographic installation is part

of the Sauerbier House Transformation

Project (May 2015 – Oct 2016). It treats the

house itself as a framing device, drawing

on archival collections and photographic

field-notes to reflect on the radically

altered state of its proximate surrounds.

From the hills to the coastal fringes, an

estuarine ecology once nourished by

seasonal rhythmic inundation. Its ancient

aquifers, fed upstream, once crystal-clear

cared-for and pristine. Sheen, shimmers,

wind/light over water, wasted, waits. This

installation is produced under critique

and in collaboration with poet, actitivst,

artist and mentor Georgina Williams
